Prescott Arizona, located in the Bradshaw Mountains of central Arizona, is one of Yavapai County’s most robust cities. Prescott is the county seat of Yavapai County and is the area’s leading cultural center. Prescott Arizona History
Prescott, Az began in 1863 and was named after author William H. Prescott, whose writings were popular during the Civil War. Prescott enjoyed life as a humble mining town when gold was discovered nearby Lynx Creek, an event that spurred the towns creation. This was the same year Arizona became a territory of the United States, Prescott was named the Territorial Capital. Displays of old town Prescott are still seen today, Whiskey Row in downtown Prescott boasts many historic buildings, including The Palace, Arizona's oldest restaurant and bar. Eventually the status of Capital was switched to Phoenix when Arizona was made an official state of the Union. Prescott though continued to prosper, eventually becoming one of the state’s biggest cities.
